Widowhood Rituals Violence:

Article 4 of the protocol to the African Charter on the rights of women in Africa ratified by the Cameroon Penal Code states that, every woman shall be entitled to respect for her life and the integrity and security of her person. All forms of exploitation, cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment and treatment shall be prohibited.

Further, Article 5 still of the African Charter on human and peoples' rights adopted by the Cameroon Penal Code states that, States Parties shall take all appropriate measures; to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices, customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiorty or the superiority of either of the sexes or on sterotype roles for men and women.

Section 285 of the Cameroon Penal Code concerning widowhood rituals states that;

The administration of any substance harmful to health, desertion under section 282, deprivation of nourishment or care, to a degree endangering health by a person having custody in law or in fact of another who is either incapable of witdrawing himself from the said custody or incapable of providing for himself shall be treated as the use of force or interference under this section of the CPC.
